Discovery Mime Theatre
Discovery Movement Theatre brings to life original stories through illusion, music, mime, slapstick, puppetry, juggling, acrobatics, dance, mask, voice, props, and inventive costumes. DMT's physical acting style creates theatre productions that are visually compelling and fun for all ages.
Since 1981 DMT has toured across the U.S., and in Canada, Mexico, and Costa Rica. They are recipients of a 2010 South Dakota Arts Council Fellowship Grant and a 2009 Dakota Connections Bush Foundation Grant. They are on the South Dakota Arts Council Touring program and are Artists-in-Residence at the University of South Dakota. The public television special “My Parents the Mimes,” featuring Discovery Mime Theatre, won the 1993 National PBS Children’s Programming Gold Award and the first place
CEN Children and Youth Programming award.
mary Mary Inman: Founding member/principle actor
Mary studied under Marcel Marceau, holds a B.F.A. in theatre,
and teaches theatre and speech to local teens. She is a seasoned performer, director, and playwright, and is DMT’s principle dramaturg, designer, and costumer.
brian Brian Begley: Founding member/principle actor
Brian holds an M.F.A. in Directing, a B.F.A. in acting, studied under Marcel Marceau, and teaches theatre and film classes for several colleges and universities. He has extensive experience in music, mask, mime, stage combat, physical comedy, and acting. He is DMT’s sound, lights, and set designer.
ariel Ariel Begley: Core member/principle actor
Ariel studied acting at the Moscow Art Theatre in 2009, is pursuing a BFA at Northern Illinois University, runs Invisible Bagel Productions, teaches summer theatre camps, and began performing with DMT at the age of two.
On various projects Mary, Ariel, and Brian work with theatre professionals from across the country: composers, designers, puppeteers, movement specialists, and actors.
