Festiwal Sztuki Mimu
International Mime Art Festival
Organised every year by the Na Woli Theatre and the affiliated Warsaw Mime Centre,
it is a review of mime theatres from all over the world.
In recent years, the Mime Art Festival has become an enormously popular event attracting crowds of mime enthusiasts from home and abroad.
In doing so, it has become a well-established part of Warsaw’s cultural calendar.
The main idea behind the festival is to present contemporary forms of this beautiful and still evolving theatrical art.
Fidelity to the tradition of mime as an art form which aims to and is able to convey the content of performances without the use of the spoken word made the festival at the Na Woli Theatre one of the most important events of its kind in Europe.
It is also the only mime festival which sets out to include only non-verbal performances. This task has become increasingly difficult over the years.
The variety of forms, content and styles of the mime art itself are well reflected in the character and the artistic line of the festival.
With the assumption that the differences resulting from the origins of mime theatres are no less important than artistic concepts, we strive to present theatrical productions which are worth attention and which show the condition of contemporary mime art.
During this year’s 11th edition of our festival, you will have an opportunity to see the latest performances by theatre groups known from the previous editions, as well as the most interesting productions from groups which will perform in Poland for the first time.
Apart from celebrities such as: the Derevo Theatre, Licedei Theatre, Bodeker & Neander Company and Gregg Goldston, you will see shows by theatres which are on their way to become future stars. This year, the festival will feature groups from France, Germany, Russia, USA, Switzerland, Czech Republic and Poland.
As every year, we would like to recommend the Modern Mime Evening.
The Modern Mime Evening is a presentation of etudes created throughout the festival, performed by several dozens of artists from all across the world, including students of the international course at the School of Modern Mime which takes place every year at the Na Woli Theatre.
An equally important element is the workshop part; it would be hard to imagine such an important international festival without it. Eminent artists from Europe and the USA give master classes every year. These classes are open to everyone who wants to try themselves in this kind of theatrical art.
You are invited to discover the art of modern mime with us with a guarantee of a wide variety of guest performers and their high artistic level.
