The youngest Mime Legend of India - Suman Mukherjee fell in love with the Mime Art when he was only 8 years. In his childhood, he watched his father acting on stage in so many theatres. He was inspired from his father??â??â??s work. Suman used to go so many theaters, rehearshals, sound studios with his daddy and became accustomed to this world. Later, a Mime show in the locality cast a deep impression in the mind of the boy. He and his elder brother watched the performance with keen interest and later reproduced some of the items before his relatives and friends??â??â?? parents every body was surprised to see the skill of the little boy and encouraged him. Seeing the enthusiasm at Suman his parents sent him to Jogesh Mime Academy, Kolkata for vocational training for 5 years in Mime Art. Then he was only 12. There he learnt the art with devotion for long five years under his Guru Sri Jogesh Dutta. He was the First student of his teen age who was awarded with Diploma in Mime. He first appeared with his solo programme in1984 at Shibpore Public Library Hall, Howrah. From then he started his journey as a professional Mime Artiste in Public Stage. Suman founded a cultural organization ??â??â?? Howrah Kala Manjari in 1986. Suman started teaching Mime and formed a small Mime Group with some of his expert students. In the mean time Suman completed his graduation from Kolkata University and started the course of Drama direction under Rabindra Bharati University, from where his elder brother also completed Master degree in drama. Now he is established in Mumbai T.V. and Film industries. Suman did not intend to act in Drama. His only passion was for Mime. But realizing the relation between Drama and Mime Suman became interested to know about the technical aspects of stage as well as the back stage and later he achieved Master Degree in it. Suman also learnt Classical Ballet, Ballroom and Latin American Dance from his dance Guru Mr. Bob Das, who was the famous dance teacher in Bengali Film Industries. Suman introduced a novel experimental Mime production blended with ballet named ??â??â?? ??â??Ë?BALLET MEETS MIME??â??â??. This production was first launched in Kolkata in 1990 at Sisir Mancha. This was a unique creation of Mukherjee. From then he carried out various full-length Mime productions of 1.30 Hours, with his repertory. From 1996, he started performing his Mime show with his repertory under his organization Howrah KALAMANJARI in a regular manner in different stages of Kolkata and throughout India as well. 150th night of his first production was celebrated by E. Z. C. C. Govt. of India. His second full length Mime production was ??â??Ë?MODERN MIME??â??â?? It also reigned for 150 nights on professional stage. His latest experimental Mime Production is CLASSIC MIME. Which is a collection of contemporary Ballet, Classical Ballet. And some of it??â??â??s features are composed of abstract form. This is totally a new thing in Indian Mime. Apart from this, he has composed so many features on the social and political crisis and on human relation enriched with emotion, laugh and satire. Now Suman is the only Mime Artiste in India who performs Mime shows regularly, conducts workshops and gives lecture demonstration in different Drama Universities and theatre organizations and runs his own Mime studio at his residence.
